Lyndsay Close has been confirmed as the successor to the role of championship coordinator for the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championship and MX-5 SuperCup, taking over from Mandy Andrew who has been promoted to Deputy Race Operations for the club. Lyndsay will also become the driver representative for the championship in the process.

Having joined the co-ordination team in 2016 and heading into her fifth consecutive season, Lyndsay will now become the main point of contact for both championships, having worked alongside Mandy and the paddock and gained substantial knowledge of the way it operates in the process. She first became familiar through her husband Mike’s racing exploits and transitioned to a role as one of the race weekend co-ordinators shortly afterward. In something of a natural progression, she will now both assume leadership and become driver representative of the MX-5 Championship and MX-5 SuperCup throughout the 2020 season onwards, both of which are shaping up to be two of the best-supported series on the BRSCC portfolio once again this year with approx. 100 drivers registered across the pair.

Speaking of her promotion, Lyndsay said: “I am beyond excited for this opportunity. I'm still "almost" speechless, which is a rare occurrence for those that know me! Looking back at my time in the Mazda paddock, it's been something of a second home, so to have the responsibility of looking after the BRSCC Mazda family is a great honour. After four years, I hope people have come to realise that I always give 100% and this year I will be aiming to give 117%!

During this time, I've worked alongside Mandy and filling such big shoes is an exciting prospect. I believe she's taught me well and she has and always will be my role model, so I want to wish her the very best of luck in her new role and I already know that she is going to be massively missed!”

Outgoing BRSCC Mazda MX-5 coordinator Mandy Andrew added “Having been a part of the Mazda paddock for over 10 years, I could not be happier that Lyndsay is taking over from me as championship coordinator for 2020 onwards. Her support as part of my team over the last four seasons has been invaluable and should ensure a smooth transition into this role, allowing the paddock to adapt to her leadership quickly and with good grace. I will still be assisting her as Deputy Race Operations for the BRSCC as she gets up to speed, as I’m sure the Mazda paddock will too, and I have no doubt that she will perform exceptionally in her new role, and I wish her nothing but the best of luck for this season and beyond.”

Anyone competing in the MX-5 Championship or MX-5 SuperCup, or those looking to join the grid in 2020 or beyond, can contact Lyndsay via 07477 577399 or lyndsay.pettigrew@gmail.com.
